Tonalite taken over by PlantronicsThe company Tonalite in Emmen, formally a division of Ericsson and later Sony-Ericsson, has been taken over by the American multinational Plantronics. Tonalite was incorporated in 2010 by a number of employees of what was formerly Sony-Ericsson in Emmen.

The team has many years’ experience in the development of wireless products, especially in the area of miniaturized Bluetooth stereo headsets. The Bluetooth technology was invented by Jaap Haartsen, who will continue to operate in the new organization together with other Tonalite people. The takeover follows on from an ongoing and successful partnership between the companies in the area of Bluetooth products.

Within Plantronics the team will focus on research and development for innovative, portable and wireless products for speech, music, location and messaging reproduction. These products add value to personal communication and information processing equipment such as mobile telephones, headsets, portable music players, game consoles, netbooks, laptops, and so on.
Headquartered in Santa Cruz, California, Plantronics employs approximately 3,300 people worldwide. The company was incorporated in 1961 and has its headquarters in Santa Cruz, California. Plantronics is the global market leader in audio communication for the business and consumer sector and also leads the way in the research & development, manufacture and sale of lightweight communication headsets. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ‘PLT’.
