The average daily output of the Dutch manufacturing industry was 0.7 percent higher than a year earlier in September. This was especially prevalent in the pharmaceutical and electrical apparatus industries.
This was reported by the Centraal Bureau voor de Statistics (Central Bureau of Statistics, CBS) on Monday.
The production of the pharmaceutical industry was more than 9 percent higher than it was in September of last year. The electrical-equipment industry produced more than 4 percent. In addition to this, the production of transport equipment, metal products, and food products was also higher than the previous year.
In contrast, the chemical industry produced almost 5 percent less than a year earlier. The machinery industry produced again less than a year earlier. This is related to a drop in outstanding orders, the statistics office noted.
The confidence of industrialists in October was slightly less positive than in September. This is mainly because entrepreneurs are less positive about their order books and stocks. The effect of this is more space and opportunity to expand, but less desire from entrepreneurs to do so.
