Consulting and research firm Great Place to Work announced for the 10th time the list of best employers in the Netherlands. More than 100 companies participated in the survey that measured and evaluated employers based on issues such as working conditions, development opportunities, rewards and leadership.

And the winner is…
The list is split into 3 categories: Large & Multinational Companies (LMNC with more than 250 employees), Medium Sized Enterprises (MSE with between 50 and 250 employees) and Small & Young Enterprises (SYE between 20 and 50 employees). Employees that participated in the survey had to answer questions like: how do the leaders communicate with staff, how proud is an employee of his/her employer and what is the atmosphere at work. The winners and thus the best employers are: Microsoft (Large & Multinational Companies) and newcomers Incentro (Medium Sized Enterprises) and Nova Media (Small & Young Enterprises).

Exceptional employer

Microsoft introduced A New Way of Working program transforming the workforce to achieve superior performance. Microsoft Netherlands did what others could not: changed the traditional office culture and behavior by taking advantage of United Communications, the Office suite and other Microsoft technologies. A New Way of Working boosts productivity and Microsoft claims that the productivity of their employees had increased by 28 minutes a day.
Another characteristic of a good workplace is the involvement of employees in each other's work. The leaders of Nova Media stimulate the employees to share stories about a project or a work-related event during lunch. Similarly, the core value of Incento is fun. The reason behind is that in order for employees to bond with each other, the company needs to organize events outside the office hours. The company organizes each month some special sporting activity and, a cherry on top, all employees of Incento go each year to Austria to ski.

Employer branding

T he launch of the Best Employer list in the Netherlands reflects the growing need for employer branding. Marketing Director VNU Media, Marjolijn Blok, says: "We noticed that the Best Employer Award has become increasingly important for employers. It is a great opportunity for organizations to be positioned in the market in a positive way and therefore they can work towards their employer brand. "
