The German mail-order firm Neckermann is getting rid of its paper catalogue and from now on will only sell via the internet. As a consequence of this new policy, 1400 of the 2500 jobs will be axed. This was announced by the company last Friday.

“The future lies in the internet for mail-order firms. It is a development that just cannot be ignored. Too much of our funds are now being spent on paper. This is stopping us from developing our website, www.neckermann.de”, according to the company. 80 percent of all orders are already placed online. During the first quarter of 2012, turnover from sales via the catalogue were down by 50 percent. Neckermann, owned by investment company Sun Capital, announced axing their own clothing brand. It would like to expand their selection with high-quality technical products, furniture and household appliances.
