This is according to the development agency ActionAid’s report, which will be presented Thursday at the United Nations General Assembly, reported The Guardian.
The difference at time spent at work between men and women varies by country. So, a woman from the UK works 2.5 years longer than a man, for example. It was also found out that a woman with a life expectancy of 69 years works an average of 23 years of unpaid work.
The report ensures that women will be less often forced to do unpaid work. According to ActionAid this has the consequences that women have less influence on politics, leisure and in generating more revenue.
‘We do not mean to imply that unpaid work by women and men must be fought against, because raising children is also important’, says GirishMenon fromActionAid UK. ‘But we do believe that the woman is not respected enough, and that more balance is needed in the working life of husband and wife’.
