Job losses in the healthcare sector are expected to decrease in the coming year. The government’s plans to implement less budget cuts in the in sector will bring down to job losses from the estimated 27,000 full-time positions to about 12,000.

This was stated in a letter that Martin van Rijn, Secretary of State and Edith Schippers, Minister of public health, wrote to the House of Representatives (Tweede Kamer). Van Rijn and Schippers assume that the lost of 12,000 jobs will affect 30,000 people

According to NU.nl, Van Rijn says he is aware that many people are uncertain regarding the retaining of their jobs. “We will continue to do everything we can to preserve many jobs, and to guide people from one job to another.”

Van Rijn also stated that due to the domestic healthcare help allowance that was introduced by the government, there is a possibility for 14,000 domestic healthcare professionals to retain their jobs in 2015 and 2016.

Dutch trade union, Abvakabo FNV was skeptical about the new calculations, highlighted Algemeen Dagblad. Lilian Marijnissen, union leader, said the government did not include temporary contracts that are not being extended (due to the budget cuts) into calculation. “It (job losses) will get much worse,” said Marijnissen.
