The number of people who found employment in the Netherlands has increased in the past three months. Overall, the unemployment rate was reduced by an average of 6,000 per month.

According to the latest figures by CBS, this development is particularly visible amongst young people. The employment figure for those within15 to 24 years old increased by approximately 10,000 a month. This trend has already started in mid-2014. Over-45s also found more employment, however this development is less significant than in the young population.

The Employee Insurance Agency also stated that the number of unemployment benefits declined, in particular amongst this young people. The number of unemployment benefits is nearly 2.4% below the level in March 2014. However, CBS emphasised that there are significant differences between age categories – the number of over-50 recipients is 8% higher whereas the number of under-25 recipients is 15% below the level in March 2014.
