AMSTERDAM – Next year, the agreed rise of the high btw (VAT) tariff will cost each household approximately 15 euro each month.
The following year this amount will increase to approximately 27.50 euro. An economist working for the ING bank confirmed the news last Saturday in Het Parool. Comprehensive financial service ING has, at the request of this newspaper, calculated the consequences of this raised btw tariff (this tariff will be levied on most products and services). “Because most people will not be receiving a rise in pay in the coming years, almost everyone will be effected the higher prices”, according to the ING.
Agreement
The company has based its calculations on data provided by the Centraal Planbureau. The CPB has taken the effects of the VAT increase on the public’s buying behaviour into account. Another factor that has been calculated into the data is the fact that not all shopkeepers will pass on the complete VAT rise onto their customers. The five-party agreement of last Thursday states that the higher VAT tariff will rise from 19 to 21 percent.
