Three quarters of employers are in favour of more relaxed laws relating to dismissal and two thirds of employers want more room to manoeuvre in regarding terms of employment policy.
This is stated in the report Labour Demand of the SCP (Social Cultural Plan Bureau) which was presented to chairman Bernard Wientjes of the employers union VNO-NCW last Tuesday.

Employers have, in the course of the years, built in more flexibility in their work force. In 2009, 13 percent of employees had a short or long running contract. Employees who have a temporary (longer than one year) contract are replaced more often than used to be the case. In the period from 1994 until 1996 this was the case for less than 50 percent of employees, in 2008 this number had risen to 80 percent. “It seems as if employers use long term contracts for steady employment more and more often. In this way, they are able to be more flexible in their work force. This is also accomplished by employing temporary workers and self-employed persons” according to researchers.
Employers have also moved to rewarding individual achievements. Between 2001 and 2007, the number of employers that applied achievement rewards grew from 30 to 37 percent but the increase drew to a halt during the credit crunch of 2008.

The government and social partners see great importance in employees receiving training but employers have not focussed their efforts on this issue noticeably in the last ten years. “20 to 30 percent of employers do not have any staff member follow any training in any particular year”, according to the report.
In 2009, 55 percent of employers stated that, for their own organization, they would want staff members to carry on working after the age of 60. This among other things, because there is a fear of staff shortage in the future. Practically all employers are of the opinion that workers of 55 and over perform just as well as their younger colleagues. 80 percent of employers also say that the labour costs of workers of 55 and over are not higher than their productivity justifies. Only 15 percent of employers is in favour of staff carrying on working after the age of 65.
