Minister of Social Affairs and employment, Lodewijk Asscher has announced that government will invest 120-million Euros over the next two years into the labour market to fight unemployment in the construction sector.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment announced that the parties have prepared a sector plan for this purpose.

The plan does not create additional employment but instead, better divides the available work. For instance guiding employees to other work, retraining skills and providing apprenticeships using wage subsidy.

The plan was signed in mid-October by the construction industry including; FNV, CNV Professionals, The Building Contractors Federation of the Netherlands, Netherlands Paving Business Association , Association of Water and NVB Builders Association of Developers and Building Contractors.

Job Plans

The job plan became available for employers and unions to appeal to a public contribution on 01 October, 2013. Plans that lead to more work or internships for young people and retaining and coaching of skilled workers at risk for dismissal are half funded by the government. This concerns the joint plans of employer organizations and trade unions.
