BERLIN – Germany is dealing with a growing shortage in skilled workers. This number will have risen to 3.5 million in the year 2025.
The German UWV warns in the German media; In order to put a halt to this development, the influx of eastern European workers has proven to be completely insufficient, up to now. Opening the borders for eastern Europeans has not had the desired effect, according to the manager for the Bundesagentur für Arbeit, Raimund Becker. Many job-seekers opted for Great Britain instead of for Germany. Between May 2011 and May 2012, 100.000 eastern European skilled workers and 28.000 southern European skilled workers came to Germany. Today, workers from Spain, Portugal, Bosnia-Herzegovina but also Vietnam and Indonesia are interesting to the German UWV. From next year on, youths will also be recruited. They will receive training once they are in Germany.
