More fringe benefit options for employees

THE HAGUE – Employees are more often given the chance to opt for fringe benefits, such as more days off, extra wages, training compensation or a supplementary pension.
A small minority of Dutch businesses offers their employees the possibility to create their own fringe benefit package. Other businesses have indicated to be planning this too. This became clear from research by employers’ organization AWVN performed under its members. The most important reason for employers to offer more options is to satisfy their employees better. Over three quarters of businesses state this is their motive. Larger businesses (over 500 employees) rate highest in offering options (71 per cent). At 78 per cent, the financial services rate highest of all business sectors. AWVN concludes that employees prefer extra days off or a bicycle provided by their employer. According to the employers’ organization this solution is part of the ‘better understanding between employers and employees’ trend.
