In our increasingly globalized world, job seekers are becoming more globally mobile than they have ever been. Yes, a recent survey by CERC tells us that 25% of workers from 24 countries surveyed would be 'very likely' to move abroad, which is up 6 points from 19% last year. So, it is clear that there is a huge pool of global talent who are willing to internationally relocate to the Netherlands for a job. However, in this highly competitive, global talent market-place international employers must have an appealing brand message if they are to attract and secure the services of top overseas talent.

In this article, we will look at some of the chief motivating factors for international staff to move abroad and give some suggestions as to how you can ensure your business is attractive in these areas and therefore has maximum appeal to international staff.

Research from the Global Talent Mobility study has informed us that the main place that job seekers search for overseas jobs is international jobs websites, so clearly focus your international job advertising in this area for maximum appeal.

Why do job seekers want to move abroad and relocate to Holland?

The main three reasons that people want to move abroad, according to the Global Talent Mobility Survey, are: opportunity to broaden experience, better career opportunities and personal challenge. So, make sure that your international employer brand offering includes strong messages which show how your business can satisfy or fulfill these criteria. This will make your business more attractive to international candidates.

If you are in the science based industries like pharmaceuticals, research etc..., it seems that candidates in these areas are attracted by slightly different things, according to a Nature Magazine report. They found that the top 4 pull factors for scientists were: Improved quality of life, more research funding, better salary and desire to experience another culture.

What information do workers need to choose an employer abroad and relocate to Holland?
If you can give international job seekers the information that they require in advance, so that they feel more at ease about the posting, you will give yourself an edge over other employers who have not given sufficient qualifying information upfront. So, what do potential expats want to know? According to the Global Talent Mobility survey, the top 5 things that potential expats wanted to know about up front were: Accommodation, Standard of Living, Comfortable social environment, language learning opportunities and relocation arrangements. So, at the very least make sure this information is provided to job seekers early on in the hiring process.

How long do people want to relocate to Holland for?
According to the Global Talent Barometer survey, most international job seekers are looking for a fixed/temporary contract of 12 months or more. In particular, applicants from BRIC countries do not tend to accept assignments that are less then 12 months in length. So, to attract most potential applicants to your role you should have a fixed assignment period of 12 months or more.

What makes an attractive relocation package in the Netherlands?
In the Global Mobility Survey by the Sante Fe Group they outlined the top 10 features of a relocation package, which will make you most attractive to international talent, and I have highlighted the top five below:

1.Immigration visa/work permits (89%)
2.Temporay Housing (84%)
3.Medical Cover (83%)
4. Household Moving (78%)
5. Pay arrangements (78%)

So, as you can see there are range of complicated reasons why an employee might relocate to Holland for a job – and if you want to attract top international talent to your business you need to optimize your hiring and employee branding process to show that you an international employer of choice.
