Employers and employees poorly informed about employment medical examination

The majority of employers and employees, around 60 percent, are not aware of the rules surrounding employment medical examinations. This is a medical examination which takes place at the end of a job application. This inspection is in fact granted only in exceptional cases.

Such an exceptional case, if the test is permitted, for example, occurs when a function has certain risks to the health or safety of employees and the environment. This is established in the Wet op de medische keuringen (Law on Medical Examinations, WMK)

Research undertaken by the Commissie Klachtenbehandeling Aanstellingskeuringen (Complaints Committee Appointment Examinations, CKA) has held shows that employers and employees think that this appointment inspection is always prohibited, except if the applicant objects. Through a campaign, the CKA wants to bring more attention to this and make it clear that this is not just permitted without good cause.
