The unemployed should be required to apply for jobs abroad

The Governor of the province of Limburg, Twan Beurskens, said that the unemployed should be allowed to apply for jobs abroad.

The Volkskrant reported this on Tuesday, 13th January 2015.

Currently, a job seeker is obligated to accept a job within a radius of 100 kilometers from his home. This radius, however, has no effect on jobs abroad, in countries such as Germany or Belgium.

"If you live in Venlo, you do not have to apply for a job in Kaldenkirchen, which is a few kilometers across the border, but you do have to apply in Nijmegen, 70 kilometers away. That's strange," said Beurskens (VVD), Commissioner of Economic Affairs, to the newspaper.

The answer to this question is now long overdue, according to Beurskens. Therefore, he wants Limburg to take the lead in helping the unemployed find jobs abroad.
