According to CBS’s report on Tuesday, more women are employed on a part-time basis because they prefer not to work long hours. As a result, 80% of financially vulnerable women work less than 20 hours a week.
Financially vulnerability is twice as common among self-employed and is also prevalent among flex workers, who have salaries at social security level. Financially vulnerable men are nearly three times as often flexible workers, women almost two times.
CBS points out that economic independence is achieved sooner with longer working hours. However, a quarter of women claim that care-providing duties make them not able to work more hours.
