In healthcare, construction and ICT, companies have difficulty finding qualified staff. The shortage can become large enough to stunt the growth of comapnies, warns the UWV.

The large shortage of staff in these sectors is due to the Dutch economy growing and thereby increasing employment demand over the next two years. In total, there are more than 225,000 jobs, according to the UWV labour market forecast.

Jobs in Childcare and Homecare

In almost all sectors, the number of jobs is increasing, but the strongest increase is in health and welfare. After years of shrinkage there will be 30,000 employee jobs in the coming year and next year.

Reason for the increase in the number of jobs in care is that the population is growing and aging, which increases the demand for care. In addition, the cuts in this sector have been eliminated. There are more jobs in childcare and homecare especially.

Also in the construction there is labour shortage. If the construction companies fail to find enough staff, then it will hamper their production.

Lack of Masons, Carpenters and Job Preparation Workers

A relatively large proportion of construction staff will be pensioned soon. At the same time, the number of young people choosing an education in a construction program has been reduced due to a lack of learning jobs. Construction companies are urgently looking for masons, carpenters and preparation workers.

The increasing digitalization also increases the demand for IT staff such as software and application developers. Last year, 17% of ICT companies indicated that a shortage of qualified staff hindered their growth.

Not all sectors offer new jobs. In the financial sector and public administration, the number of jobs will fall in the coming two years.
