Japanese biotech company Human Metabolome Technologies (HMT) opened a European Office in Leiden. The office will be part of the Leiden Bio Science Park. HMT develops metabolomics technologies for drug discovery, diagnosis and food production. The Mayor of Leiden and the Dutch Ambassador of Japan attended the opening ceremony.
HMT chose the Netherlands because of its central European location. The company will be able to receive samples from clients around the world. The Leiden Bio Science Park was also an advantage for the company.
“InnovationQuarter and NFIA have provided excellent support for the setup of our European office in beautiful and friendly Leiden,” said HMT Managing Director Tsutomu Hoshiba. “Their timely and pinpoint guidance made for an easy entry and now we are ready for business.”
Life Sciences Cluster in Leiden
The Leiden Bio Science Park was a major factor in HMT’s decision to expand to the Netherlands. The park includes a university, medical center and other biotech companies.
“We are pleased that HMT has chosen the Leiden Bio Science Park as the location for their European office,” said Mayor of Leiden Henri Lenferink. “With their advanced metabolomic analysis technology, HMT will be a valuable addition to the Leiden life science cluster.”
The Netherlands has more than 2,500 life sciences companies and research organizations. Some of these include Amgen, Medtronic, Genmab and other multinationals. HMT will have access to 12 research universities and 82 hospitals in the Netherlands.
