People who occasionally work from home, often miss family activities more than workers who work from home on a regular basis or fulltime at an office.

In 2015in the Netherlands, nearly 3 million people worked at home, in a total of 8.6 million workers (employed or self-employed). Of that 3 million more than 60% worked on an irregular basis, according to the research by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and TNO research institute. The remaining 38% worked at home regularly.

Teachers often work occasionally at home, presumably to check papers. Also, managing directors and managers work at home occasionally. People who frequently work at home are writers or photographers. Even advisers in marketing and sales often work from home.

Struggling with Balance Between Work and Family

On the CBS figures regarding overtime, it is clearly reflected that those who do work at home a little bit are struggling to find a good balance. They often complain more about work pressure than people who do not work at home or that do so regularly. Often, people who only occasionally work at home close their laptopjust to finish working.

The overtime on an irregular basis also ensures that this group often neglects the family. Of those who only occasionally work from home, 61% said that the family sometimes takes second place: activities are not done or neglected.
