Minister of Social Affairs Henk Kamp communicated this to the Dutch Lower Chamber last Tuesday. The preliminary report shows the results of nine experiments which were started last year. These experiments are initiatives from trade unions and employers’ organizations. Helping companies find other work for employees in fear of losing their jobs without intervention of implementing agency UWV. They receive a financial contribution of 2500 euro at the most for each employee. Businesses will have to invest at least the same amount. Minister Kamp has made approximately 2 million euro available for this experiment.
Lower educated employees
The preliminary report shows that especially lower educated employees, aged 45 to 50 years old on average, have been aided in finding other work. Part of the coaching was training for another job. According to minister Kamp it is of importance that employers and unions have a direct responsibility in helping employees find other work. “This will prevent people from needing unemployment benefits”. Businesses having more responsibility in coaching dismissed staff will also be a big part of the new dismissal laws which should come into effect in 2014. From then on businesses will have to foot the costs for unemployment benefits for the first six months.
