AMSTERDAM – In the Catshuis (the official residence of the prime minister), negotiators for VVD, CDA and PVV are discussing the possible change to or even the end of the tax-free mileage allowance for employees.
This was stated in an article published in the AD last Wednesday. Several different alternatives have been put to the CPB (Central Plan Bureau). Today, employees still receive 19 cents per kilometre from their boss but this amount may drop to 14 cents. According to the negotiators this is a realistic proposition, landing them 500 million euro. Putting a complete end to mileage allowance has also been discussed. Last Monday, the MPH (a trade union federation) actually discussed an increase in the mileage allowance. Since petrol prices have risen quite sharply and the mileage allowance has remained the same, the trade union federation pleaded for an increase of 5 cents.
