Since the economic crisis, companies are paying less tax and individual taxpayers are footing the rest of the bill. This was reported by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) based on its own research.

According to the think tank, the average tax payments made by companies have decreased between 2007 and 2014 from 3.6 percent to 2.8 percent of gross domestic product (GDP). On the other hand, the proceeds from income taxes from citizens have increased from 8.8 to 8.9 percent, and VAT revenues increased from 6.5 to 6.8 percent.

''Companies continue to find ways to pay less, while the costs reach civilians,'' said OECD director Pascal Saint-Amans. According to him, the figures show the necessity for tighter rules that force companies to make their fair contribution.
