The Hague – At no point in the last six years have there been more people out of work against their will than during the beginning of this year. In the first quarter of this year there were 883,000 people looking for a job for at least 12 hours a week.
Yet nearly half of them, 399,000 people, are not able to start straight away or is not looking for a job actively. This group usually consists of mothers and relatively younger people (up to the age of 45). This became clear from numbers published last Monday by the CBS (Central Bureau for Statistics). The left over 484,000 people ‘sitting at home’, are registered as unemployed with the CBS. They are looking for work actively and are able to start within 2 weeks.
