A study done by Kim Cameron at the University of Michigan found that workplaces that were to have “positive and virtuous practices” will provide better results. These “positive and virtuous practices” include providing support for one another, respecting one another, avoiding conflict and an overall strive to achieveteamwork. Here are the benefits of having that within the workplace:
Team Morale
Simply offering a helping hand to a fellow employee at your workplace is already enough to give him or her the feeling of trust. According to the Harvard Business Review, team morale plays a big role on one’s emotions. With positive emotions, one would “broaden” their resources, which encourages communication. With good communication amongst employees, it is more likely that creativity will flow. Having strong team morale will also give employees a feeling of belonging, which will then encourage more responsibility in one’s work.
Flexibility
Companies with a strong sense of teamwork make work flowmore flexible. By having different people with different capabilities working together in one team for a project, problems and limitations are more likely to be handled easily. By understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, employees can know and expect what kind of information will be received and wanted, thus work can flow more easily as everyone understands each other’s weaknesses and strengths.
Fairly Shared Workload
When a team is working together for a main goal, each member should have a fair amount of work. This means that a member will nothave a situation of having more work to do (or less work to do) than others. With proper support from each team member amongst each other, work would be distributed and worked on equally. This would implyefficiency, thus getting the “best” out of the team.
Learning Experience
Solid trust and good cooperationbetween each employee in a team means that teammembers are more likely tooffer help to those in need. Having employees supporting each other in a team can proveto be a learning experience for those who lack the necessary experience and knowledgein some specific tasks. People are more likely to respond positively to criticism, they will be more open to one another and this creates a subtler atmosphere for people to learn from each other.
In conclusion, having employees supporting each other will not only increase morale, but it would also increase the flow of productivity. It is a huge benefit to have people work together for a specific goal. To add to that, employees will be more open to criticism, which will lead to a deeper understanding between the employees. Companies that emphasise and understand the importance of having employees support each other will often achieve remarkable results.
