Foreign multinationals create a relatively large number of jobs around Amsterdam

According to CBS (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek), foreign multinationals occupy 20% of jobs in Dutch industry, while the Dutch multinationals account for 23%. The foreign multinationals are mainly employed in the Randstad and in the south, while jobs locations of Dutch multinationals are more evenly distributed across the Netherlands.


The report released on 4 August 2015 highlights that the foreign multinationals are especially active around Amsterdam. The concentration of foreign multinationals’ jobs (foreign companies with subsidiaries in the Netherlands) is also highest in the Randstad and in the south of the country. The largest proportion of jobs of foreign multinationals is concentrated in Greater Amsterdam (32%), followed by IJmond (29%) and North Limburg (25%). The lowest proportion of foreign multinational jobs is found in Southwest Friesland (9%).

Dutch multinationals (Dutch companies with subsidiaries abroad) on the contrary are considerably more evenly spread across the country. Jobs of Dutch multinationals are most strongly represented in the Delfzijl (30%), Southeast Brabant (29%) and North Limburg (29%), while IJmond has the lowest proportion of Dutch multinationals jobs (11%).
