
Across the EU 9 percent more cars were sold. According to CBS, Dutch sales growth figures for vehicles are one of the highest in Europe.
In Ireland car sales rose most, by nearly 30 percent. In Cyprus and Portugal, sales were a quarter ahead. The Dutch percentage grew faster than Germany, Britain, and France. Estonia and Luxembourg are the only countries where sales shrank.
The increase in the Netherlands is mainly due to tax changes, which came in on 1 January. The change boosted sales in the last months of last year. In December 2015, sales were 90 percent higher than in December 2014.
In numbers, Germany has the largest car market. The eastern neighbors bought more than 3.2 million new cars last year.
