Within companies, more effort must be made to address excessive workload, found out the Inspection of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), formerly known as the Labour Inspectorate. They also state that employers and employees should be wise enough to enable the assistance of experts.
The agency looked at more than eighty organizations within the period 2015 (end) and 2016 (beginning), and at whether they had taken sufficient measures to prevent excessive workload. By the vast majority, their approach was not in order. The inspectorate observed dozens of violations.
According to the inspection, the pressure is too high when the demands of work to an employee are not in balance with the carrying capacity of an employee. This is, for instance, when an employee is not always able to finish the work or ensure the quality cannotbe delivered, while he or she is unable to do anything about it.
Excessive pressure can lead to physical or mental illness and absenteeism, but also to less production and unhappy customers.
