The relatively favorable economic developments in Germany offer opportunities for jobseekers. Province of Drenthe, four municipalities in Overijssel and Drenthe together with the German municipality of Emsland presented a job plan on Monday.
The unemployment rate along the border is often high, sometimes twice as high as the national average. Whilst in Germany there’s is actually a shortage of labor.
The red tape and small incompatibilities such as differences in laws and regulations, wages and social security prevents unemployed Dutch individuals from applying to jobs across the border in Germany.
The province and municipalities aim to help 400 unemployed individuals in Germany every year. The reality is however showing that unemployed Dutch individuals run into a "glass wall". Due to the above differences in regulations there appear to be gaps in the state pension causing further problems with the mortgage and insurance.
According to the authorities, '' it is strange that we do look at The Hague and Amsterdam, but not here near the border." The labor market does not stop at a border,'' said the Drenthe provincial executive Ard van der Tuuk.
The action plan includes a network establishment with the German government and companies, language training, help-desk and an exchange of vacancies.
