More and more young people that are not continuing education and without basic qualifications, do not have a job. In 2008 more than 70% of these young people had a job, this has declined to less than 60%. Young people with a basic qualification have fewer jobs than before the economic crisis. Butsince 2014 these young people are working again more often, and nearly 90% had a job in the second quarter of 2016, reports CBS.
Young men without basic qualifications were more likely to work in 2015 (63%) than young women in the same situation (56%). Someone has a basic qualification if he has at least a diploma at MBO level 2 or HAVO or VWO diploma. Young people with a basic qualification had jobs much more frequently. In this group, the difference between men and women is smaller (88% and 85% respectively).

Young women without basic qualifications have less connection with labour.

Young women without basic qualificationssearch for work less frequently, or are not immediately available for work. This demonstrates that they have less attachment to the labour market than young men in the same situation. Three quarters of young women without basic qualifications and without work in the past four weeks did not search for a job or were not readily available. In young men this was lower at 63%. For one in ten of these women the main reason why they had not looked for a job was because of care responsibilities, while by men this was not even mentioned.

Young people without a basic qualification earn considerably less.

The primary personal income of working young people without a basic qualification in 2014 was relatively low: 36% of women earned 10 thousand euros or less per year and among men this was 23%. The average income for young women without a basic qualification was 13 thousand euros, compared with 24 thousand euros with basic qualifications. Young men with basic qualifications earned on average 30 thousand euros while men without basic qualifications earned 22 thousand euros. An income of 30 thousand eurosis more common for young people with a basic qualification.
