Technological developments follow each other in rapid succession. As an organization you want to lead in these developments, and for that you need a talent. Those talents you have to keep engaged and intrested. And that is now more difficult to do. Unlike earlier times where employees stood in queue n front of your doors to be employed, nowadays you mustmake an effort to attract them in and then to keep them.

Three Interests in Balance

How can yourespond as an organization? Director Guido Heezen from Effectory identified three interests that must be well balanced. “In the first place is the social importance – What does your organization contribute to the world? Then thereis the organization's interests – you should ensure that the processes in your organization proceedswell and that you will remain financially stable. Finally, there is the individual interests of the employees who work with you – They must be who they are and feel appreciated”.

Unstable Equilibrium

If those interests are in balance, the energy flows; employees contribute to the success of the organization and the organization contributes to a better society. This way you bring new employees more easily to your organization. “Unfortunately, I often see that there is an imbalance”, said Heezen. “Organizations are pressuredmainly to serve one organizational purpose (read: financial interest). This makes the organizational purpose artificially high. The pressure to make a profit is at the expense of the public interest and at the individual interests of employees. That pressure is often put forward bythe shareholders and supervisory boards”.

Nurturing Talent

“On the other hand, you have a force that is diametrically opposed here”, said Heezen. “You have to deal with employees themselves also. They want to develop their talents and to do useful work for the society. They want to serve the public interest and they look for an organization that fits their interests. And that can be very good news. Especially if your organization not only strives for organizational goals, but keeps an eye for the social interest and the individual interests of your employees”.

More Awareness

According to Heezen, the (potential) employees no longer believe in advance everything that the organization claims. “Human consciousness is growing. We ask questions, look and compare. Only then can wea choice. As an organization, you must also give employees the space. Space to make choices and to develop themselves. If you offer that space, you automatically become the employer of choice!”

Use the Growing Awareness
