Tanned and full of new energy, we just came back from vacation. Some of us go “whistling” to work again, but others have to truly drag themselves to the office. It is not surprising that many people at this time are trying to find a new job. At Monsterboard, they see that there is 24% increase injob searching after the summer holidays, and 25% more people upload their resumes.
“Actually, you get to know a completely different side of life during the holidays”, says life coach Astrid Koelewijn. “You have time to think, and experience what it is like to be completely relaxed”. According Koelewijn many people are becoming aware of who they are at this period, causing them to think about what they want to do the rest of the year.
New Adventure
It was the same with MaschaPerquin (44). She was director at ABN Amro, but now for five years long, she runs her own food truck. Under the name Mama Mascha she has a mobile cooking school where she gives workshops across the country. “I was looking for a new adventure”, she says. She walked for some time with the plan, but decided during a holiday to really to do. “I used that time to think 'If I dare this?’”
Even after five years, she has not regretted her decision. “I learned so much and I have done so many new things”, said Perquin. “If you always do what you did then you do not get it”. Her advice for people who want something new is therefore simple: “Just do it”, she says. “You can always come back, so what's the risk?”
Realistic Goals
However, many people find it hard to actually put into actionall their grand plans after the holiday. According to Astrid Koelewijn is important that you do not make it too hard on yourself. “You can make your plans morelikely to happen if you set realistic goals for yourself. When searching a new job, for example, think about the steps that are necessary to achieve this.”
And keep the goals manageable, especially in the beginning. “Exercising everyday is a task, bur twice a week is manageable. So start small”.
