It is quite possible that at some point of a job interview, recruiters might ask an inappropriate question regarding marital status, religious views, race, ethnicity, disability, sex or age. As a result, one might feel uncomfortable or even discriminated.
The reason why recruiters may ask such questions is to make sure that there are no major barriers that may prohibit you to stay working in the company. If you leave the company sooner than agreed due to external factors; the company will have to find someone else to replace you, which will cost them time and money.
Nevertheless questions regarding your personal life, views or believes are always difficult to answer during a job interview. If you find yourself in such a situation you can do one of the following:
• Answer the question if you feel comfortable doing so.
• Refuse answering the question in a very polite way by asking what exactly do they mean.
• Turn the question around; make sure the recruiter knows that you are a great fit for the job by focusing on your skills and availability.
Even if you have a good reason not to answer these types of questions, refusing to do so might just cost you the job. On the other hand, no matter what you chose to do, the most important question is; are you willing to work in an environment that will expose you to such practices?
