Hans de Boer, president of VNO-NCW , the confederation of Netherlands industry and employers, said on Radio 1 programme De Ochtend that FNV’s requirement could prove bad for certain sectors, especially the ones that have not overcome the economic crisis and are still facing difficulties doing so.
According to ANP, he also stated the demand is senseless. He pointed out the retail and housing sectors as examples, stating that they are still facing a lot of difficulties and will not be able to give such a raise and it would be better if arrangements are made per sector.
In addition, de Boer said that eventually only a small portion of the raise reaches the pocket of the employees. He said that if the gross were to be €900, the employee would only receive €300 net, which is disappointing.
This is the first time FNV has demanded 900 euros cash for all employees instead of a wage increase in percentage.
