According to research, the vitality of Dutch employees is low, 29 percent scored even low to very low. Only 12 percent of the respondents scored highly, according to research by Schouten & Nelissen. In total, 57 percent of employees experience lower vitality due to an excessive workload. This group is also 3.5 times as likely to get sick.

Having a higher vitality in your life makes you feel more energetic, and also means you're having fun by taking part in your work. If you are feeling particularly vital, you perform better, and also make a better impression. And this does not only happen at the time, but for a longer period of time.

Jessica van Wingerden, director Schouten Research: "High pressure, bullying at work, lack of development opportunities and insufficient feedback from colleagues and supervisors hinder the vitality of employees. Employees who are unable to develop at work scored a 4.4 on vitality. Employees who may develop well scored a 7.5 on vitality. It is notable that only 10 percent of respondents stated that the manager asks for feedback. '

According to the study, it is not just the fault of the workplace so that the vitality is low. Self-improvement can also do a lot of it yourself. For example the extent to which employees own their work and working environment adapt called job crafting. People who are engaged in job crafting are 50 percent more vital than people who do not. Leaders who encourage employees in development and taking its own direction, have 36 percent more vital employees.
