
The winners were announced on Thursday 11 June 2015. The Eindhoven-based NXP received the award for their ground-breaking work in Near Field Communication (NFC). NXP contributed to a secure technology for data transfer between mobile devices.
Laura van ‘t Veer invented MammaPrint, which is a breast cancer test based on genetic research. NU.nl says that thanks to this technology, there is less need for chemotherapy after a breast cancer surgery. MammaPrint has helped over 40,000 women with cancer treatment, according to independent.ie.
The prizes were awarded in Paris by EPO’s president Benoit Battistelli, in presence of around 400 guests engaged in politics, economy and science.
