Lodewijk Asscher, Dutch Minister of Social Affairs, is taking steps to address the problem of stress.
His Ministry will check working hours, workload and aggression in the workplace. Asscher also wants employers and employees to be aware of the risk of too much stress. He has launched a campaign to point this out.

Stress is a taboo
One third of work absenteeism is caused by stress. According to the Minister, it is often a taboo, “employees are ashamed to talk about stress. Hard work is nothing wrong, but the conditions to do so should be there. For example, you can work with a family member or a friend. In this case, you care about work conditions and there is no aggression, bullying and harassment. I want it to be normal for employers and employees discuss stress and deal with each other. ''

Week of Work stress

Asscher announced in his letter a rural week of work stress. In addition, the Ministry will organize meetings where employers and employees share ideas about coping with stress. Asscher also encourages agreements to reduce workload. Previously, he announced measures to make collective agreements to make work and health compatible concepts.

Vice President Ruud Kuin FNV is pleased to see what Asscher is going to do against stress, but it is not enough. “We miss some key solutions, which are not visible in this campaign. There are simply too few workers for too much work".
