After nine months of negotiations, workers in the large metal industry have a new collective agreement.

Thursday morning, it was announced that an agreement has been reached on a salary increase of 5.9 percent over the coming years. This year, employees will receive a pay increase of 2.1 percent. In 2017 and 2018 new wage increases will follow, as well as a lump sum is part of the new collective agreement. The unions have responded positively to the agreement. The union members must still approve the agreement in principle.

Metal workers will also gain more control and autonomy over their own working hours. The improved conditions will affect around 140 thousand workers in the foundries, shipbuilding, vehicle construction and automotive industries.

The parties involved were pleased with these results. Negotiator Peter de Jong from CNV Professionals: “We have reached a principle agreement through proposals from the employers on the table. I feel i can remain confident in daring to present this collective package to our members.”
