Proper skill sets found lacking in the workplace

A quarter of employers feel that their employees do not have the right qualities for the jobs they are employed for. However, a few employers know to go with the times and keep up with their employees. This makes it difficult to attract the right talent. This comes from a study done by Tempo Team in relation to recruitment strategies.

About fifty percent of dutch employers believe that new knowledge within the organisation is not developed or shared well enough. This affects the quality of the workers, they found. Namely, twenty five percent of employers believe that the skill set of their workers are too low. The research shows that employees are still not sufficiently involved in the development of their own skills. For only half of the respondents is it important to focus on future developments.

Employers have a lot of trouble adjusting to the new trends which are popular in this day and age. Only thirty five percent of employers use social media for recruiting new personnel for jobs in The Netherlands, an area rife with new talent. Employers appear to have difficulty with the speed of digital developments.

"It is time that employers and employees get their act together. They will need to be quicker in keeping their knowledge bases up to date as well as maintaining the right capabilities and employees in house and pick up. This requires a good understanding of what knowledge and skills are missing, then investing to fill in the gaps", says Joost Heeroma, spokesman for Tempo-Team.
