THE HAGUE – Despite rising unemployment figures and a decline in vacancies, some sectors are still in need of tens of thousands employees.
Commerce is the definite front runner, even though the number of vacancies has fallen sharply there were still well over 20,000 employees wanted in the second trimester of this year. CBS figures show that health care is also looking for 17,000 employees, the specialized commercial business sector (including employment agencies) needs 12,500 employees and the manufacturing industry is looking for 10,500 workers.
Vacancies
The number of vacancies in these sectors have also dropped sharply over the last few years. In 2008, there were 42,000 vacancies in commerce and 28,500 in health care. The specialized commercial business sector had 28,000 openings and the manufacturing industry was looking for 25,000 workers. The total number of vacancies has dropped by half since 2008. In the second trimester of 2012 there were over 116,000 vacancies (without corrections of seasonal influences). Exactly 4 years earlier, right before the crisis struck, there were nearly 257,000 jobs to be had.
