People who receive unemployment or sickness benefits can withhold information about their income with impunity. The Work and Security law (Wet Werk en Zekerheid, WWZ) will go into effect on 01 July 2015.

Trouw revealed this on Saturday, 30 May 2015. This law is a replacement of the Unemployment Benefits Act (werkloosheidswet, WW), but it will continue to exist for those who request it until 01 July”, said a spokesman of the UWV to NU.nl. Under this new law, people’s income will automatically be deducted from the data that the UWV and tax authorities have.

The UWV told Trouw that they no longer want to fine people who make mistakes in their income statements. “We will have a serious talk in terms of large amounts, but no, no penalties”. However, fraud monitoring will remain in force for other laws.
