At the moment, about a quarter of international students remain in the Netherlands after their study -mainly students who have completed a scientific study. Job prospects are greater in the disciplines of Engineering, Health and Nature.
161 Nationalities
The Netherlands is a country popular among foreign students. At this moment, at our universities and colleges there are nearly 75,000 international students from 161 different nationalities pursuing fulltime study.
Graduates from Germany, China, Indonesia, Poland and Belgium often linger. This is in contrast to graduates from Central and South Africa, who rarely remain in the Netherlands.EP-Nuffic, a Centre working on internationalization in Dutch education, suspects that this is due to the poorer labour market prospects outside Europe. Another cause could be the longer average duration of a college degree, compared with a university education.
Equal Pay
For international students who continue to work in the Netherlands, there are equal opportunities. They work as often and earn as much as their Dutch peers, the report shows. Of all foreign students who graduated in our country in 2008, 2009 and 2010, in the Netherlands, 42%, 38% and 36% still live here respectively after 5 years.
