Great Reasons to Get A French Job In The Netherlands – and how to do it
Our research tells us that more and more of you are looking to move abroad for work. In fact a recent survey from CERC which polled 13,000 employees in 24 countries revealed that 25% of people said that they would be 'very likely' to take a job abroad in another country, which is a 6% increase from last year. People relocate abroad for many reasons such as: to broaden their experience, develop their career, experience new cultures and simply to find paying work due to high unemployment levels in their home country.
If you are one of these globally minded workers looking to move abroad then one country you should consider is The Netherlands. Why? There are several reasons why the Netherlands is a good destination for a French job, but the most important one is the fact that it has very low levels of unemployment at the moment, compared to the rest of the world, which means there is a very healthy jobs market. For example, October figures show that the unemployment rate in The Netherlands is at 5.5%, which is substantially lower than the average unemployment rate for the euro-zone which is 11.7%.
Another important reason why The Netherlands should be the destination of choice for international employment is that it has one of the highest standards of living in the world. Yes, in the Mercer Quality of Living Survey – World-wide Rankings, 2012 which was released in December 2012, The Netherlands ranked as the 12th most liveable country in the world.
So, not only is there a good market for French jobs in The Netherlands, it is also a great place to live and work. A further reason that The Netherlands is such as excellent place to relocate to work is that due to its location in the heart of Western Europe, it is a well established European transportation hub. We realize this is important to global job seekers as a recent Global Talent Barometer survey revealed that two of the top reasons that people move abroad are to: 'broaden their horizons' and 'experience new cultures'. This means that being in The Netherlands not only gives you access to the new culture within the Netherlands, but Netherlands is an excellent base from which to visit the rest of mainland Europe, the UK and the United States.
Having decided that the Netherlands is ideal place for you to go and get your expatriate job, then how should you go about doing it? There are a range of ways to secure expatriate in employment in The Netherlands such as applying on international jobs boards or company websites, however, I also think there are two very important long term international careers strategies that you can adopt to help you get a French job in the Netherlands and these are:
1. Travailler aux Pays-Bas
Learn a second/third language; candidates who can speak languages are valuable in most countries including the Netherlands. Ideal languages to learn are English, Dutch, Flemish, Russian, Spanish, French, German and Mandarin.
2. Travailler aux Pays-Bas
Join a multinational with offices in the Netherlands; another approach is to join a large multinational in your home country which you know has offices in the Netherlands. With this approach you may be able to organize an assisted inter-company transfer from your home country to a French job in the Netherlands.
