BRUSSELS – Brussels is dragging the Netherlands to court because the rights of some employees are not protected enough by the government.
It concerns the right of employees to return to work after maternity leave or adoption leave. This was announced by the European Committee, the general management of the European Union, last Thursday. Brussels blames Dutch law for still not having any specific criteria concerning these workers and their protection. Since 2007, the committee has repetitively urged the Netherlands to conform the law to European legislation. After aforementioned types of leave, employees should be able to return to the same or similar function. They should not be discriminated against.
