AMSTERDAM – More than half (55 percent) of all employees are trying to make a career switch due to the economical crisis.
About a third (30 percent) of all employees declare that they are considering a career switch should the opportunity occur. However, for 15 percent of employees, the economical crisis has no influence on their career. These numbers became apparent from global research under over 4600 visitors to the career portal Monster/Monsterboard.nl.

Differences between countries

The results show that employees in Europe, North America and Asia largely agree with one and other. More than half of all respondents in these countries say that they would want to change their career due to the unstable economical climate. In the United States for instance, that number is 56 percent. In the Netherlands, 53 percent of interviewees share the same ideas. In the United Kingdom the numbers are even higher, a whopping 62 percent.

Better offer

All interviewees agree that they would consider a career switch if they should receive a better offer. A third of Canadian employees (33 percent) considers a career change should better opportunities be on offer. The percentages for French employees (31 percent) and American employees (30 percent) are approximately the same. In the Netherlands 35 percent of interviewees would make a change in their career.

The influence of the crisis

Interviewees do respond differently to the answer: ‘no, the economy has no influence on my career’. In the United Kingdom only 9 percent states that the economical crisis does not influence their career. This in comparison to 15 percent of French employees. In the Netherlands this percentage is 12 percent.
