Unemployment in France has risen further. The third quarter saw an average 10.6 percent of the French workforce without a job, compared with 10.4 percent in the previous three months. This is evident from figures published december 3, by the statistics office Insee.

Unemployment increased in all age groups, but most strongly among young people. Within the agerange of 15-24 year-olds, almost a quarter are unemployed at home. There are a quarter more people who work fewer hours than they would like. That was true for 6.7 percent of the workforce.

There has not been such a big part of the French population on the sidelines since the autumn of 1997. Unemployment also increased in the first two quarters of this year. While the government of President Hollande focused on job creation, it has instead turned to spearhead economic policy.

Figures from the Ministry of Labour in France showed a record number of nearly 3.6 million counted as unemployed in October. This was 42 thousand more than a month earlier. In September, the unemployment rate decreased slightly, something that was also occured previously since 2012.
