Categories: * Search tips,
When job searching, particularly online, you often have so much choice for vacancies, that it becomes hard to distinguish between them all. Often, the vacancies you see are for large, well-known companies, those with high reputation.

However, many don't realise that reputation rarely counts for all that much; employment counts for much more! You may be searching for your dream job at the largest companies, but their influx of applicants is so high, that their rejection rate is also high. When searching for employment, particularly first time employment, it's often best to look for small, new companies.

There are several ways to ensure that searching for new companies when job searching goes successful. These ways would be contacting smaller companies rather than larger corporations. Contacting and setting up interviews via LinkedIn and other networking sites. Scrolling down more on job sites as the majority of the people apply for primarily the first five to ten vacancies that they see. Visiting less popular job boards as new companies generally do not have a lot of disposable income to advertise vacancies on bigger platforms.
Spending more time on job searching is always vital and should be considered as a fulltime job, changing your CV and Cover Letter to match the job position usually takes time and the candidate should spend valuable time editing their documents to match the exact criteria to even get a chance to be short listed. Sending the same CV for every position is usually a waste of time, in a recent study by CareerBuilder.com, “71 percent of hiring managers said they preferred a resume customized for the open position.”

As a job hunter it is always important to have a presence on job sites, job boards, agencies and etc. If it’s either via telephone or by email, it is important to receive emails directly for the criteria of jobs you are interested in. For example, if you are searching for a Recruitment job make sure that you receive updates from sites for the newest recruitment vacancies. This always you to be up-to-date with vacancy openings.

A lot of people do not actually follow up their application and do not get any reply if they are successful or not. It is important to follow up the application to show enthusiasm and obtain details on your application process. While these small businesses may not be the dream job you're looking for, working with small companies can often be much more fulfilling. When your impact is visible, it can make it feel much more worthwhile. This has a lot of added benefits when you eventually decide to move on to your next job, as you'll be able to concretely show what you've done at the company, how you've improved it, and how you've grown. This will speak volumes about you as a person in your CV, and help you get to your dream job much sooner.
