Frans Timmermans calls for better employment for women - (Picture: ANP  ReutersBenefit working women)

Brussels wants to improve the position of mothers in the workplace and increase the participation of women. Concrete proposals have come in 2016, but can take paternity leave, improving flexible work arrangements for both women and men, and childcare adjusted.

This made Frans Timmermans, Vice-President of the European Commission, known via social media. Brussels in the coming months working on the plan, and shall also look at the situation around maternity leave. Previous proposals from Brussels for a longer minimum number of weeks of maternity leave in the EU was found to lead to much objection in different countries. |

And while the EU Timmermans many may benefit from more women working. "It is still difficult for women to work than men. This is a moral and social problem, because women are more at risk of being in poverty. But it also leads to a huge waste of resources for the European economy. This situation is largely due to a lack of opportunities for families to divide work and care tasks, "he wrote on Facebook.

Comprehensive approach
"We need a comprehensive approach," he continues. 'Maternity leave of course, and the right to flexible working arrangements for both women and men, parental leave, paternity leave and access to care for children and people who are dependent on care. It is in the interest of all Member States to make progress in this area by national measures and support initiatives from the EU. "

Instead of the previous plans, which were withdrawn in early July after seven years of fruitless negotiations, Brussels now think of things like facilities to breastfeed or better legal protection for dismissal as women go on leave.
