The Amsterdam-based DE Master Blenders and Mondelez International are blending their coffee portfolios into a new company. With combined revenue of more than €5 billion, the new company will be the world’s largest pure coffee company.

Amsterdam: a home to headquarters
The entire deal is expected to be completed in 2015 and the new company will operate from the headquarters of DE Master Blenders in Amsterdam. This decision illustrates that Amsterdam has solidly established itself as a leading location for European headquarters. Especially when large multinationals merge, they are increasingly choosing the Netherlands as a location for their new (legal) headquarters.

Introducing Jacobs Douwe Egberts
The news of the merger was announced in a press statement that notes that the newly created company will be called Jacobs Douwe Egberts. The two companies own some of the world’s leading coffee brands, such as Jacobs, Carte Noire, Gevalia, Kenco, Tassimo and Millicano from Mondelēz International, and Douwe Egberts, L’OR, Pilão and Senseo from D.E Master Blenders 1753.

Attracting international companies
In 2013, 23 international companies established their headquarters in the region. Besides factors such as the neutrality and the fiscal-friendly climate, multinationals find a wide range of internationally oriented business service providers in the region. The Amsterdam Metropolitan Area hosts a large and diverse pool of professional service providers and hundreds of companies in the fields of finance, media, ICT, advertising, venture capital and shared services. Another major selling point for international companies is the excellent accessibility provided by Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
