20% of the Dutch work one day a week from home. Ten years earlier this was 15% according to the Social and Cultural Planning Office (SCP).
According to their figures, the growth corresponds to the number of hours that people need to complete their work. One third of the people who work from home do so to finish their work.
22% claim that concentration and efficiency are important reasons to do the work from home. The removal of travel time and the ability to combine caring responsibilities with work are less important reasons (11% and 8% respectively).
In a report last month, SCP wrote that part-timers have remarkably fewer opportunities to work flexibly than people who are working full-time. Men, people over 55, and people with higher education have the most opportunities to work flexibly.
