These figures were announced by CBS on Friday 1 May 2015. Overall, 41,000 workdays were lost due to the strikes. A ten-week campaign by employees in the cleaning sector accounted for more than half of these lost days. Twelve of the 25 strikes lasted for more than five days.
Compared to other European countries, the annual number of strikes is quite low in the Netherlands. CBS’ figures of the European average between 2009-2013 show that France, Denmark and Norway involved the most strikes.
